Recommended dietary programmes

The DigestionReady programme is revolutionary because it focuses on how you eat rather than what. Of course most dietary programmes focus on what you eat rather than how.

Many of these are entirely compatible with the DigestionReady programme and are in fact, recommended as they go very nicely together. These include:

The Mediterranean diet

This consists of plenty of plant-based foods including vegetables and fruits, whole grains, legumes (lentils, split peas, chick peas and cooked dried beans such as kidney beans) and nuts. Olive oil instead of butter and a moderate amount of fish, poultry and dairy products with little or no red meat.

The DASH diet

The Dietary Approach to Stop Hypertension (DASH) is very similar to the Mediterranean diet. It has been shown to lower blood pressure and improve blood glucose control.

Diet according to Maharishi Ayurveda

It is becoming increasingly recognised that when it comes to diet “one size does not fit all”.  While including many of the features of the above diets, Maharishi Ayurveda brings the added advantage of styling your diet to your particular body type. You will find out more about the Maharishi Ayurveda diet when you have a consultation with Dr Lovell-Smith.

The combination of your individualised Maharishi Ayurveda diet with the DigestionReady programme will cover both what and how to eat in a way that will yield excellent results.

Low carbohydrate diets

Cutting out poor quality carbohydrate foods such as biscuits, white bread, white rice, muffins, cakes and replacing them with carbohydrate foods that are more slowly absorbed (beans, lentils, brown rice, wholemeal bread) is a good idea and good for your health. For those who suffer from pre-diabetes or established type 2 diabetes such diets, along with the DigestionReady programme, are a particularly powerful combination. Assistance with them can be given during a consultation with Dr Lovell-Smith.
